Implementing Quality in Laboratory Policies and Processes:Using Templates, Project Management, and Six Sigma Jr. Donnell R. Christian, Stephanie Drilling
Customers are people. They have trouble understanding their own problems. And even if they think they understand their problems, they often can´t describe the solutions they seek. Of course, many times they often don´t know they had a problem or that they desired a solution, until they see or possess it. This book takes the challenge of developing customer understanding head on by providing a fresh perspective on how to use a variety of games with customers to develop the understanding that forms the foundation of innovation. Innovation Games is organized in two parts. The first describes each of the twelve games. The second provides sample processes and templates to help the reader organize their team, plan and run a game, and incorporate the results into their product development plans. The exercises described in this book provide a unique and fun approach to a problem that has plagued product developers and managers for many years: how to identify a customer´s thoughts and behaviors in order to ensure your product is solving the right problems.
Agile Project Management - Achieve More - Practical Advice - Agile Revolution It is impossible to overstate the severe set of challenges caused by the overly administrative linear development approach and specifically the waterfall methodology. From Agile Project Management : Agile Revolution Waterfall methodology is part of the linear, scope-driven lifecycles family of approaches. As it is the manifestation of the command-and-control organization, it is highly prescriptive. Almost all organizations using the methodology have a similar set of processes, mostly based on the PMBOK (more on that later). Agile is an approach for managing software product development according to the guidelines set in the Agile manifesto. There are several methods and processes for implementing the Agile approach. It is 2014, I think to myself, and still businesses believe that having a 110-page project delivery methodology is a prudent approach to planning engineering customer-facing projects and products. Failure is written all over the pretty waterfall deployment approach and the numerous templates, work instructions, procedures, processes, decrees, and change approval committees. When I did introduce Agile concepts, I wasn´t surprised that most didn´t recognize the term. Indeed, while the software industry has been undergoing a paradigm shift other industries, project managers, and the respective project community have been ignorant of the benefits embedded in Agile approaches.... The heavy descriptive waterfall methodology they have concocted requires an upfront investment in feasibility assessment and the allocation of project resources to it. Agile approach, the Kanban method with some elements of Scrum, would be a much better solution to their feasibility phase ailments. For them and for everyone else who thinks that Agile is limited to software, I dedicate this guide.... 1. Language: English. Narrator: Barbara H. Scott. Estimates say that as many as eight out of 10 new businesses fail within the first 18 months. More conservative estimates say that about half of new business start-ups are still in business four to five years later. In either case, the likelihood of business failure is very high. Studies prove that good planning practices more than double the chance of business success. Yet, the vast majority of small to medium-sized businesses operate without a formal plan, and of those who do build a plan, only a handful carefully measure their targeted objectives and adjust their plans accordingly. Business Is Art provides business leaders with an easy-to-follow approach to business success. The book is intended for any business owner, executive, or organizational leader, but is especially designed for the small- to medium-sized organization. Its purpose is to provide a simple process - with templates - that business and organizational leaders can follow, from the creation of a powerful vision, to strategic business plans, to performance metrics, and back again in a continuous cycle of improvement. Created by Jon Umstead, and tested over a 30 year business career, the ART program shows business leaders how to successfully articulate their vision, revise their plans, and track their progress. Umstead draws on personal anecdotes and experience, as well as wisdom from other business leaders, to create an engaging, accessible, and empowering guide to business success. 1. Language: English. This compact resource analyzes and demystifies the processes of applying for, competing for, and getting funding for research. Neither a cookbook nor a template, it encourages readers to apply the critical thinking and attention to detail they use in their investigations to the pursuit of the grant. Chapters delve into choosing among funding options, project planning and writing, filling out the materials in the application packet, and troubleshooting for problems at various steps of the journey. Along the way, the authors also explore common myths of grantsmanship and alert readers to hidden pitfalls that can get an otherwise good submission rejected. Among the core skill areas covered: · Using strategic thinking throughout the application process · Understanding the major grant mechanisms · Navigating the grant timeline, including the peer review and the vetting process · Writing the effective project description · Following up if the project is not funded or funding is deferred · Building a career grant by grant Brimming with expert knowledge, Grantsmanship for New Investigators ably balances motivation with realism. The authors´ deep understanding and experience of how funding agencies arrive at judgments will inspire readers to present their research in the most convincing manner.
