Game of Thrones: The Influence Behind Game of T...

All you need to know about Game of Thrones! This project endeavors to serve two kinds of listeners at the same time: those who like history and those who like Game of Thrones. The two are often mutual interests. In effect this audiobook is a real-life historical breakdown of the cultures, characters, and events contained within George R. R. Martin's epic book series A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF). The books and short stories, along with the global smash hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones, which is based upon the ASOIAF novels, is set in a complex, engrossing medieval fantasy world every bit as interesting, complicated, morally gray, and brutal as humanity's real history. The reason for Mr. Martin's level of detail in crafting his characters, locations, cultures, and histories within the ASOIAF world is rather simple. George R. R. Martin is a lifelong student of history as well as an unashamed history nerd. In interview after interview, the author of this truly expansive world admits to drawing upon real events, real cultures, and actual peoples within world history as templates for his imagination to build upon. Mr. Martin seems to have a particular affinity for the medieval period (5th to 15th centuries CE) of Europe and the Middle East, with a great deal of inspiration coming from British history during that era. In addition he draws heavy influence from the Renaissance era (15th to 17th centuries CE). He is also not afraid to dive further back into human history for literary fuel. The ancient Celts, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Persians, among others, are all present in some form within the ASOIAF world. Nearly every culture on earth, along with a bit of its history, has a place in ASOIAF. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Phillip J Mather. The book Encoding and Decoding the Meanings of English Idiomatic Expressions tackles the most commonly used idioms in British English and American English. It is furnished to analyze a great deal of idioms multilinguistically. The book consists of three parts. Part One offers a tessellation of newly innovated theories and creative approaches of analysis, which were applied to the culled idioms. Part Two represents the analytical and practical aspect of the book. It is considered analytical because it analyzes (150) idioms picked up from the total idioms (500) that embody the whole corpora of the book. On the other hand, it is called analytical because the innovative and existed theories and newly created approaches were applied to the randomly culled idioms. The multilinguistic analysis covers a set of linguistic topics new classification of idioms, structural decomposition of idioms, morphological templates, metaphoric creativity, pragmatic projections, semantic phenomena, symbolic images, and sociolinguistic aspects. Part Three handles the idioms quantitatively and qualitatively. As this part presents discussions of the results obtained from the quantitative analysis of idioms.

An easy-to-use guide for writers, editors and students The Mini Style Guide covers the fundamentals of good writing and explains how to present a manuscript for publication. It is written in a direct and accessible manner suitable for all ages and backgrounds, and assumes no prior knowledge of the writing trade or the publishing industry. Explanations are accompanied by plentiful 'real life' examples, and each chapter opens with a humorous quotation. The book consists of three parts. Part 1 covers the essence of good writing, both factual and non-factual. It covers the principles of Plain English; words that are often misused or misspelled; and common grammatical and punctuation errors. Differences between Australian, British and American English are explored; inclusive writing is defined; and copyright law as it applies to writers is clarified. Part 2 explains the technicalities of how to present a manuscript. It examines the advantages and disadvantages of working exclusively on computer and working partly on hard copy; outlines the structure of a manuscript and the order of its various components; and explains how to compile a contents page to reflect the heading hierarchy. It explains how to treat quotations, lists, abbreviations and numbers; offers advice on presenting illustrations, tables, charts and graphs; and discusses bibliographical material and indexes. Part 3 explores possible publishing avenues; that is, commercial publishers, literary agents and self-publishing. It defines the role of each; explains which one is best suited to which type of writing; and includes advice on how to write a synopsis, select sample chapters and draft a covering letter. The Appendix contains templates of standard forms and letters that can be photocopied and tailored to suit individual needs. The Glossary contains commonly used terms to do with writing, publishing and printing. The Bibliography contains sources used and recommended. Foreword by Robert Fairhead, book reviewer at Writing NSW.

Jewish Contiguities and the Soundtrack of Israe...

Jewish Contiguities and the Soundtrack of Israeli History unfolds the cultural itineraries of modern Jewish and Israeli art music. Extending from modern Jewish art music in Europe through its dislocation to British Palestine and Israel, the book captures the tensions between national rhetoric and nationalized theological tropes through the way they have been recorded in art music. Author Assaf Shelleg begins with the prehistory of Israeli art music in central and Western Europe. He introduces the reader to the various aesthetic dilemmas in the history of modern Jewish art music, ranging from auto-exoticism to Jewish self-hatred. Moving on to consider the Hebrew culture, he discusses the institutionalization of art music in British Palestine and the dilution of romanticist nationalism during the interregnum of Israeli statehood. Delving into the proliferation of styles in the 1950s and '60s, Shelleg examines the collapse of traditional Hebrew templates and the concomitant surge of linear compositional devices inspired by Arab Jewish music. By the 1970s, he reveals, Israeli composers saw musical Judaism as a cultural discourse that transcended the nation; they deterritorialized the national discourse at the same time that religious Zionist circles had been translating theology into politics. Shelleg unearths the various cultural constraints and dialectics that played a pivotal role in the dislocation of modern Jewish art music to Israel, and looks at the Jewish undercurrents of Hebrew culture and how Jewish secularized concepts outgrew their national functions. Jewish Contiguities and the Soundtrack of Israeli History will be essential reading for scholars of Jewish and Israeli music, culture, and history
