An updated edition of the Sunday Times best seller.Britain´s best known classicist, Mary Beard, is also a committed and vocal feminist. In Women & Power she revisits the gender agenda and shows how history has treated powerful women, using examples ranging from the classical world to the modern day. Beard explores the cultural underpinnings of misogyny, considering the public voice of women, our cultural assumptions about women´s relationship with power and how powerful women resist being packaged into a male template.A year on since the advent of #MeToo, in a new afterword, Beard reflects on the successes and the future of that movement, probing the narratives of rape and consent. She asks about the stories men tell themselves to justify their treatment of women. Which stories endure, and who controls them? With wry wit Beard argues it´s time for change. From the author of international best seller SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome.PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your Library section along with the audio on our desktop site. 1. Addressing the pervasive longing for meaning and fulfillment in this time of crisis, Nature and the Human Soul introduces a visionary ecopsychology of human development that reveals how fully and creatively we can mature when soul and wild nature guide us. Depth psychologist and wilderness guide Bill Plotkin presents a model for a human life span rooted in the cycles and qualities of the natural world, a blueprint for individual development that ultimately yields a strategy for cultural transformation. With evocative language and personal stories, including those of elders Thomas Berry and Joanna Macy, this book defines eight stages of human life - Innocent, Explorer, Thespian, Wanderer, Soul Apprentice, Artisan, Master, and Sage - and describes the challenges and benefits of each. Plotkin offers a way of progressing from our current egocentric, aggressively competitive, consumer society to an ecocentric, soul-based one that is sustainable, cooperative, and compassionate. At once a primer on human development and a manifesto for change, Nature and the Human Soul fashions a template for a more mature, fulfilling, and purposeful life - and a better world. 1. Agile Project Management: Agile Revolution, Bey...

Agile Project Management - Achieve More - Practical Advice - Agile Revolution It is impossible to overstate the severe set of challenges caused by the overly administrative linear development approach and specifically the waterfall methodology. From Agile Project Management : Agile Revolution Waterfall methodology is part of the linear, scope-driven lifecycles family of approaches. As it is the manifestation of the command-and-control organization, it is highly prescriptive. Almost all organizations using the methodology have a similar set of processes, mostly based on the PMBOK (more on that later). Agile is an approach for managing software product development according to the guidelines set in the Agile manifesto. There are several methods and processes for implementing the Agile approach. It is 2014, I think to myself, and still businesses believe that having a 110-page project delivery methodology is a prudent approach to planning engineering customer-facing projects and products. Failure is written all over the pretty waterfall deployment approach and the numerous templates, work instructions, procedures, processes, decrees, and change approval committees. When I did introduce Agile concepts, I wasn´t surprised that most didn´t recognize the term. Indeed, while the software industry has been undergoing a paradigm shift other industries, project managers, and the respective project community have been ignorant of the benefits embedded in Agile approaches.... The heavy descriptive waterfall methodology they have concocted requires an upfront investment in feasibility assessment and the allocation of project resources to it. Agile approach, the Kanban method with some elements of Scrum, would be a much better solution to their feasibility phase ailments. For them and for everyone else who thinks that Agile is limited to software, I dedicate this guide.... 1. Language: English. Narrator: Barbara H. Scott. We the Eaters: If We Change Dinner, We Can Chan...

How we can transform the global food system by changing what´s on our dinner plates. The implausible truth: Over one billion people in the world are hungry and over one billion are overweight. Far from complete opposites, hunger and obesity are in fact different manifestations of the same problem: It´s increasingly difficult to find and eat nutritious food. By examining the global industrial food system using the deceptively simple template of a classic American dinner, We the Eaters not only outlines the root causes for this bizarre and troubling dichotomy, but also provides a blueprint of actionable solutions - solutions that could start with changing out just a single item on your plate. From your burger to your soda, Gustafson unpacks how even the hyper-local can cause worldwide ripples. For instance: American agricultural policy promoting corn and soybeans in beef farming means we feed more to cows than to hungry people. This is compounded by the environmental cost of factory livestock farming, rising obesity rates, and the false economics of unhealthily high meat consumption. The answer? Eat a hamburger; just make it a smaller, sustainably raised, grass-fed one. Gustafson - a young entrepreneur, foreign policy expert, and food policy advocate - delivers a wake-up call that will inspire even the most passive listener to take action. We can love our food and our country while being better stewards of our system and our health. We the Eaters is nothing short of a manifesto: If we change dinner, we can change the world. 1.
